This apple-cranberry combination is especially loved during the holidays, and the red color makes it spectacular! This pie won a blue ribbon in the "non-traditional apple pie" category at the NM State Fair by a Pie Pal, John. Thanks for sharing, John!
7 – 8 medium large apples peeled, cored, sliced (Granny Smith and yellow delicious)
1/2 cup cooked mashed cranberries
1 cup plus 2 T. white sugar
1/4 cup light brown sugar
1/4 t. salt
4 T. corn starch
1 T. flour
1/8 t.nutmeg.
1/4 t.cinnamon
2 t. vinegar
2 t. real vanilla
2 t.brandy
3 T. butter
Preheat oven to 400°
Pre-cook the apple slices ½-way in the microwave (2 cups at a time for 1.5 minutes). Put each portion in a bowl until all the apples are cooked, stir in the cranberries, and set aside to cool to room temperature.
Mix dry ingredients in large bowl. Blend the vinegar, vanilla and brandy, and stir into the dry ingredients. Stir in the apple-cranberry mix.
Pour into the pie shell, dot with butter, put top crust on, seal, cut slits, and sprinkle additional white sugar on top
Bake for 25 minutes, then turn oven down to 350° and continue baking for 45 more minutes or until the crust is golden.

Make sure to use sweetened condensed milk and NOT evaporated milk.
